MD5 Hack - A Hack of the Drones 2018
28 Sep - 05:30 PM
Austin, United States
Commercial off-the-shelf, small, unmanned aerial systems (sUAS) have become ubiquitous, and the potential threat they represent in the hands of actors ranging from lone wolf terrorists to state-sponsored operatives, grows daily. The recent attempted assassination of Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro using sUAS with explosive payloads represents the natural evolution of this threat and highlights the pressing need for technology and solutions to effectively counter these systems, while diminishing the risk to innocent bystanders.
MD5, in collaboration with Army Futures Command, will host A Hack of the Drones 2018 at Capital Factory in downtown Austin, TX from September 28 – 30, 2018.
We’re looking for developers, designers, and hackers from the academic, military, and commercial start-up communities to come together for a weekend to explore non-traditional, innovative methods to counter sUAS. We’ll focus on four areas:
Detection of sUAS operating in waypoint mode (i.e. not actively broadcasting/communicating)
Novel Cyber Effects for undetected exploitation of the sUAS system, including the operator
Nullification of the sUAS’s ability to perform its mission without destroying the system
Elimination of a sUAS threat that has defeated all other cyber and electronic warfare counter-measures while minimizing risk to bystanders
Challenge area experts and technical mentors will be available to work with teams to develop their concepts. MD5 will procure a small fleet of representative commercial drones for teams to tinker with. Top teams will win up to $15,000 in awards to further develop their concept in collaboration with MD5!
Registration is now open! Get your ticket today. If you are bringing a team with you to the hackathon, each team member will need to register separately for a ticket. (And if you are not part of a team yet, no worries, we will help teams to form at the start of the event.) All meals included throughout the weekend.

Lean In ATX Presents Negotiat[Her]: by Lauren Hasson
28 Sep - 05:30 PM
Austin, United States
Lean In ATX is honored to present Negotiat[Her]: by Lauren Hasson Founder of Develop[Her]
https://developher.com
Become a Negotiat[Her]:
Learn the Secrets to Make More $ in Your Career
As women, salary negotiation is an essential skill, but negotiating isn’t always so easy. Imposter syndrome, fear, and unconscious bias are real adversaries that can get in your way to a successful negotiation and earning what you’re worth. The good news is that negotiation is a skill that can be learned. Come learn how Founder of Develop[Her], Lauren Hasson, tripled her base salary in less than two years by grounding herself in data and asking critical questions to uncover key leverage points and ultimately learned to negotiate with confidence. You’ll learn actionable steps you can take yourself to not only uncover your true market value, but also negotiate for the salary you deserve.
About Lauren Hasson
Founder of Develop[Her]Lauren Hasson is the Founder of DevelopHer, a career development platform for tech women by tech women, and a software engineer at a prominent Bay Area fintech company where she builds their apps and is a principal member of their information security team.
Her work has been featured in Apple keynotes, she was one of 100 top innovators invited to attend the UK G8 Innovation and Decide Now Act Summits with the United Nation’s technology council, and she’s won multiple, high-profile hackathons. She holds a degree from Duke where she completed a triple major with honors in electrical engineering, computer science, and economics in just four years.
But, despite all her accomplishments, she was surprised to learn she was paid 50% less than a male peer. So, she took action and invested in learning how to negotiate for herself. And, in less than two years, Lauren tripled her salary! That’s an additional six figures that she earns year after year after year! That’s exactly why she founded DevelopHer – to champion tech women and mentor fellow female engineers on the importance of negotiation and building their worth. She’s on a mission to bridge the gender income gap, one woman, one negotiation at a time.
