This event will bring the world of data and blockchain together in order to create killer apps against paper. The Factom network is full of data - come and build exciting applications that will leverage the power of blockchain technology. You will be joined with blockchain experts and beginners alike to hash your great ideas into action.

What is the theme for the hackathon?The main theme of the hackathon is “Blockchain vs Paper”. How does Blockchain enable the world to bypass paper? Participants will be asked to use the Factom blockchain to create solutions using data from the Factom Blockchain instead of what would be traditionally stored on paper.

What is the schedule for the hackathon?Wednesday, June 6th:1:00-1:30 p.m. - Pre-Hackathon training (Register here: bit.ly/2Hdv9tf)

Friday, June 8th:5:30-8:30 pm. - Mix & Mingle Happy Hour at Draughthouse (4112 Medical Parkway, Austin TX 78756)

Saturday, June 9th:8 a.m. - Intro and Breakfast9 a.m. - Hackathon Begins10 p.m. -You don’t have to stop coding but Capital Factory closes.

Sunday, June 10th:9 a.m. - Capital Factory opens9:30 a.m. - Presentations11:30 a.m. - Award Ceremony

What are the prizes?1st place - $5,000 USD2nd place - $3,000 USD3rd place - $1,000 USD

Who should attend?Anyone who’s interested in the potential of blockchain technology! Whether you’re a designer, developer, UI/UX Guru or just someone with a great idea, everyone is welcome to form or join a team.

Can I participate remotely? How many team members do I need?One member, at a minimum, must be in attendance in Austin for the presentation. Teams can be any size. (The average team size is 2.5.)

How do I form a team?We do encourage participants to start forming teams before the event. If you would like to start a team or are looking for a team to join, be sure to attend the Friday evening mixer or make an announcement at the opening ceremony on Saturday. Another way to find a team is through CrowdForge: bit.ly/2jMnedl

What if I don't know how to code?You are still welcome! As long as you come willing to learn and ready to contribute ideas, you can contribute to a team.

What technical information do I need to know beforehand?None at all! Non-technical members are still welcome to participate. If you’d like to prepare yourself for the hackathon, feel free to browse the Factom Documentation located on our site.

What is the judging criteria? Judges will evaluate your hack based on the use of the Factom Protocol, Originality and Usefulness. The winning team will be decided by a jury comprised of industry experts as well as professionals at Factom.

What are the presentations like?You will have 5 minutes to pitch to a panel of judges followed by a five minute Q&A. You'll be provided with A/V support, a microphone, and a projector.

Will we be provided food during the Hackathon?Yes, you will be provided food and drinks throughout the Hackathon. You can also bring your own food and drinks if you prefer.
