IEEE UofT - Hardware Hackathon

Calling on all hackers!

IEEE UofT Student Branch are extremely excited to organize Hardware Hackathon again this year.

Are you a hacker or a maker? Do you have an interesting idea for an electronics device? This is a perfect opportunity to show off your hardware knowledge and strengthen your hands on skills.

The Hardware Hackathon is a fun-spirited one-day event. In teams of two, you are tasked with creating a functional and creative electronics device of your liking. You will be provided with a wide variety of parts including an Arduino Uno to make powerful devices. Imagine, you can build a light controlled music instrument with provided speakers and light sensors. We encourage participants to come up with an idea before the competition and use the lab time to implement your design.

At the end of the day, each team will pitch the idea to our panel of judges as well as all contestants. Both the judges and contestants will vote on the top hackathon projects. The top three team will receive prizes with top prize being AMD graphics card Radeon R9 380, so bring your competitive spirit!

Do not have that much experience with hardware components or circuit design? Fear not! The design team will send out the pre-competition package to all participants two weeks before the Hackathon. This will introduce you to various useful circuits such as IR proximity sensing and many others so you can use them in your project. We will also release the full parts list offered at the competition.

In order to secure the spot, one person from the team should purchase two tickets on Eventbrite and fill out basic information for every member in the team. A $10 fee for each person is required. This will cover all components you will need to build your project.

Thanks to our wonderful sponsors: AMD and Analog Devices, without whom we would not be able to provide such awesome prizes.

If you have questions about registration, please contact Vicky at yueqi.chen@mail.utoronto.ca. See you all soon!
