Description

Calling all data analysts, hackers, and pitching experts!

SFU Business Analytics Hackathon 2018: With the sponsorship of Best Buy Canada, Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University hosts the annual business analytics hackathon – a one-day competition, in which student teams analyze a business case, use the given data set to build their best predictive model, and communicate their results to industry judges from organizations such as Best Buy, Electronic Arts, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, and Rocky Mountaineer.  Each team will be judged on three components, namely (1) business case understanding, (2) technical competence, and (3) communication. While teams’ technical competence will be primarily assessed by the predictive performance of their models, their “storytelling” will be assessed by the industry judges. Prizes for model performance will be separate from the storytelling prizes.

Team Eligibility: This event is open to SFU students of all faculties who would like to challenge their teamwork, analytical, and public speaking skills, and to alumni of the Beedie School of Business. Students must register as a team. Each team must have at least two and at most three students. Teams can use analytics platforms and algorithms of their choice.

Registration Deadline: The maximum number of teams (25) is reached or Nov 15th, 2018

Awards: More than $2,000 cash prizes in total
