Ensuring water secure futures will increasingly become a key responsibility of all citizens worldwide.   Re-Imagining the Future of Water(RFW) Youth Dialog - 27 June 2017     A hackathon (also know as a hack fest) is a gathering of like-minded people ranging from programmers, scientists, designers, etc. to solve social or business related problems using technology. As part of the conference, there was a need to bring innovators aboard and bring forward-thinking ideas/solutions in addressing the future of water. The participants will be guided by related industry personals/experts in coming up with solutions and thereafter work on the implementation of the solutions.     The intent of the hackathon is to find technology based solutions that will assist the City of Tshwane in addressing service delivery challenges aligned to the following stream of business: sustainable water, energy and waste resource sustainable transport & mobility responsible and sustainable tourism  The hackathon will form part of the building blocks to achieving the new vision for 2030 which is in part anchored around service delivery excellence and innovation; creating jobs; promoting social cohesion and inclusion; and fostering participation and collaboration.  By successfully implementing the proposed hackathon the City will accelerate its’ momentum in igniting excellence and achieving the 2030 vision

WHEN:     19-20 May 2017 WHERE:   Standard Bank Rosebank Incubator WHY:        An opportunity for ladies to showcase their skills and to grow a network base for Standard Bank’s Female Programme TARGET:  60 ladies divided into teams of 4 Why the #SBHackathon Standard bank wants to build the women in technology entrepreneurs pipeline across Africa The growth of the African continent will be driven by technology as an enabler we want to see women at the forefront of this transformation Help build a community of women who want to take their businesses to the next level We want to develop, support and inspire women in technology through the femtech programme The hackathon aims to showcase the talents women and encouraging them to use technology as means of solving challenges This is a great opportunity to showcase the skills while networking and having fun Solutions need to be in the form of Mobile Apps or websites Terms and Conditions 1. Standard Bank will not have ownership of your product  2. The Hackathon is strictly opened to females only  3. Winning the hackathon does not guarantee you space into our accelerator incubation programmes. Rigorous selection will still need to be considered  4. Standard Bank does not have any control over who uses your idea after the hackathon 5. Each team MUST have at least one programmer  6. Each team should have minimum 2 members with maximum 4 7. Not attending on Friday, 19 May disqualifies you from the hackathon 8. Only 60 ladies who meet the criteria for the hackathon will be selected
        SafeHack 2017

        This will be the first Information Security Hackathon hosted by Geekulcha, its sponsors and partners under the theme “SAFE HACK” It's a 30 hours challenge that gathers Geeks under one roof to solve challenges using Cyber Security knowledge. It is a great opportunity to showcase skills while networking and having fun. Mentoring will be provided to the Geeks by Security professionals throughout the hack A session will be held at the beginning of the hack to introduce safe coding principles, and explain how the software and hardware can be used against the business (developer) and its customers. The hackathon gives focus to SECURITY and thus functionality will play a small role in judging criteria. A “Capture the Flag” challenge will be set up and available for the Geeks to experiment with during coding breaks Important notices: Please Note: No cyber hacking of any other contestants, projects, laptops or devices is allowed.  Any attempts will result in disqualification. The SafeHack contest is only open to beginners (hackers who do not work for or in security at any level). Participants must bring their own machines for the hackathon and it is advised that a pre-developed application is brought to the challenge in order to use the hackathon to enhance the security features.
