From January 25th to 30th, iSpace is hosting The Social Impact Week to use tech for social change. Learn about pursuing impactful careers, how to launch a successful social enterprise, and where social entrepreneurship is headed in Ghana today. The event starts off with a hackathon from which the 3 top teams will go on to building an MVP @iSpace, a tech and creative innovation hub where like-minded and focused entrepreneurs can collaborate and co-create. The goal is to promote and support entrepreneurs and innovators in Ghana who are building new technologies for local and global markets.

Girls in Tech's weekend-long Hackathon is callin out iOS and Android app Developers, Designers and Product Developers to team up and have the opportunity to prototype and develop apps that visitors new to San Francisco or staying during the Super Football Week can use. Think of real-time geo-location app for finding fellow football friends, Restaurant finders, reservation app for shows, concerts, boat rides, or Traffic Alert apps. Developers should be familiar with third-party APIs, in particular they should be able to integrate a REST API in a mobile application (e.g. Android), call the API endpoints, parse the response, and display the data in a meaningful way. UI/UX Designers can team up with developers and create assets/graphics or flows in order to make a great app that is fun and easy to use.

The Microsoft Student Partners in Paderborn want to start the new year with a new Hackathon. This time, everything revolves around Internet of Things and cloud. The challenges include creating apps on the Raspberry Pi, creating a REST API with ASP.NET 5 and Entity Framework for database access, Website Development with SignalR for real-time communication between the Web browser and API, and Hosting in the Cloud with Microsoft Azure. The Mozilla Philippines Community (MozillaPH) Localization Team is hosting the MozillaPH L10n hackathon. L10n, meaning hacking through a translation system, changing an original (source) language version of any content such as text, multimedia, ebooks, or apps into a different (target) language by simply substituting words from one language to another—in context. Adapting any content and applications for regional—or local—consumption in order to appeal to the customer’s cultural preferences in their own target language. The rise of different mobile devices worldwide has made the jobs mobile developers much more difficult. They now have to deal with multiple devices and write codes for both Android and IOS. Hybrid mobile application framework such as Ionic is designed to address this issue. Ionic is a mobile apps prototyping tool that allows developers to focus on the design and fast prototyping without worrying on the cross platform compatibility. This course will provide you with all the knowledge necessary to develop a mobile apps, using a hands-on "by example" approach. You will learn how to create a complete mobile app, building up from many small examples demonstrating Ionic features and development practices. You will learn about cross platform mobile apps, Ionic, setting up Ionic development from scratch, screen navigation, CRUD in mobile apps using free online storage (Parse.com), building a TODO list from scratch, and deploying mobile apps to mobile phones.

Rep. Swalwell, in coordination with knodemy, a mentor-based coding academy, is hosting the Congressional App Challenge for students of all coding experience levels to join and learn about Java programming and other skills for developing apps in the Android environment. A winning app will be selected at the CA-15 Hackathon and displayed in the United States Capitol and on the U.S House of Representatives website and the individual or group winner will be offered a summer internship by knodemy.
