This April 21st, 22nd and 23rd, Northern Virginia Community College will be hosting its very own Hackathon: 2017 Innovation Hackathon! This 36 hour period will be filled with tech talks, programming, cyber security practice, food, fun and cutting edge creation. The focus of this event will be on secure coding to advocate for a more secure cyberspace and showcase the importance of cyber security to organizations, companies, and everyone else. Do not be intimidated, there are talks and challenges for every level of skill from beginner to advanced. This is a great opportunity to gain experience and learn about the booming computer science and information technology industries. Learn from working together with knowledgeable individuals, hands-on experience, and promoting cyber security through secure coding. Please bring your own rig (laptop,desktop etc), a sleeping bag (if you plan to stay overnight) and a positive attitude! Please email novahackathon@gmail.com with any questions or concerns. AquaHacking is a five-month long hack-a-thon that catalyzes stakeholders who want to protect our freshwater – citizens, decision makers, practitioners, researchers, NGOs – to take action. AquaHacking challenges young digital designers and coders, aspiring water experts and entrepreneurs to develop applications that raise awareness about water issues, and that solve water problems. There is $75,000 in prize money available, in addition to access to local accelerators and mentors for winning teams. The Challenge: Water experts, hackers, engineers, and other creative minds work together as a team for 10 weeks to develop functional, marketable innovations to help solve Lake Erie’s water issues. The competition runs from April - September, with semi-finals in June and the finals in September. Anyone 18 or older is welcome. Nigerian Fintech hackers! Here's your chance to showcase your skills and compete for big prizes! Sign up for the ReCode Nigeria Hackathon. Submit an amazing Fintech solution project -- or come up with one at the event. You'll be challenged to build innovative solutions to the thorniest problems in financial services today -- ones of improving customer experience and/or creating value.

Sponsored and presented by Genuine, the 2017 HackBeanpot competition features an immersive weekend-long workshop bringing together Boston’s up-and-coming collegiate developers to learn about new technologies and work intensively on software and design projects of their choice. Participating teams of all skill levels will show off their coding prowess and compete to create original projects incorporating APIs and services from companies such as Google, Amazon, IBM Watson, Spotify and Twitter. Winning projects, which are awarded prizes in various categories, will be judged based o original coding and design skills that articulate clear use cases for each team’s final product. Now in its fifth year, HackBeanpot emphasizes creating a diverse event, uniting college students around New England to work and learn as a team all while harnessing their creativity to develop something truly original. The three-day event also features a variety of presentations and hands-on workshops led by members of the region’s most prominent tech companies and start-ups. Additionally, each company provides mentors to help teams navigate through the development process of their projects or provide a boost to give a product that final push through the proverbial finish line. Many hackathons focus on specific themes or problems that need to be solved, with winners picked on how a project best solves a particular issue. HackBeanpot avoids this philosophy in favor of letting each team work on their own projects, this year with an added spotlight on “#InventTogether,” a phrase which originated from presenting partner Genuine.
