BrightSource — Donor Network West Hackathon

BrightSource is partnering with Donor Network West, one of the largest organ procurement organizations nationwide, for our third growth hackathon!
Held at the Donor Network West office, competitors will have a chance to witness the nonprofit's impactful work firsthand, then work as teams to devise a yearlong teen-targeted organ donation awareness campaign. As always, competitors with the best solutions, as judged by the clients, will be hired as interns to implement their proposals in real life.
Monetary prizes are as follows:
First Place – $1000
Second Place – $500
Third Place – $200

WomenHack - The All-Women Hackathon San Francisco

A one-day hackathon for women from experienced coders to total newbies. Note: No coding experience is required to participate in this hackathon, you just need passion
Only 20% of hackathon participants are women, similar in scope to the underrepresentation of women in computer science and other tech fields.
The Expat Woman has been addressing this gender gap by hosting these all-women hackathons for the last two years. Our talented participants with backgrounds in coding, design, entrepreneurship, business, product etc ranging in age from 15 to 65 have developed innovative websites, games, cloud-based services, and mobile apps to address various challenges.

Join us for our 5th WomenHack - The All-Women Hackathon on October 20, 2018.
Come with an idea, and form a team or join a team on-site and spend the day building a great project with enthusiastic, talented, fun people.
You do not need to have coding experience to participate We will have mentors at the hackathon who can assist you with your projects.

Addressing some of today’s most relevant societal challenges can’t be solved by one discipline alone- LYLAS Labs empowers women to come together to solve modern societal and political challenges on interdisciplinary teams. Each team is armed with open data sources and paired with subject matter experts to propose creative solutions and frameworks.
About the Hackathon:
For its inaugural hackathon, LYLAS is partnering with the Flatiron School to host a reproductive rights policy hackathon. The goal is to develop content and prototypes to aide candidates and advocates with the tools they need to understand the policies, opinions, and current state of abortion across the nation.
Information for Participants:
Participants will be organized a week before the event into groups. Each group will be formed by the LYLAS Labs production team to ensure that each team is interdisciplinary and includes a flatiron technical expert. Starter packs will be given to each teams and include: public data sets, lists of reproductive health organization tools that already exist, advice on ideation techniques for team brainstorms and project execution.
Throughout the day, teams will have access to subject matter experts at the event and opportunities for teams to “hack” the issue as well as pressure test their ideas with external experts on the project’s feasibility on real world application. The hackathon will bring ideas that will surely have potential to immediately impact your organizations and its role in the dissemination and public policy education pertaining to women’s rights and our vital upcoming elections.

Design Sprint: Using Life Church's adaptation of Google's Design Sprint, we will focus on rapidly testing and iterating a number of prototypes in a single day in order to help Foster the Bay provide a loving home for every child in the Bay Area. (space is limited)

Day 2
9:30 a.m. – The fun continues with coffee and breakfast in the morning. Work with the teams from Day 1 to complete the app spec'd. Mentors will be available throughout the day to help you code your solution. App submissions will be accepted throughout the day with a deadline of 4 p.m..
12 p.m. – Lunch is served
4 p.m. – Deadline for team registration (information will be provided onsite)
5 p.m. – Dinner is served
6 p.m. – CODE FREEZE. Pitches start promptly at 6:15 p.m. and are limited to three (3) minutes per team. PowerPoint presentations are NOT recommended!
